CASE STUDY 01

Coastlands sits in about an acre on the East side of the Seaside resort of Sidmouth Devon. The house was due to be demolished and be replaced by a block of 5 ugly Flats. In 2006 there was nothing short of local uproar, with local petitions and newspaper articles. In 2008 the developer then ran into financial difficulties and the Bank took over the property, we saw it in 2008 and have been chasing it for over a year. Our plan was to renovate it and bring it back to its former 1870 glory. I drew and submitted plans to add a modern glass extension (with balcony above it) and to replace a dilapidated garage with a single extension. However, the town council would not support our application, saying it was ugly and over developed, we said “would you prefer the Flats then?”

There has been a series of front page articles in the local newspaper about it.
